2020 Charles Schwab Challenge Fantasy golf rankings, top expert picks: Fade Dustin Johnson, back Sungjae Im

Birdies should be plentiful as the PGA Tour returns on Thursday with the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge from Colonial Country Club. Over the last 20 years, Colonial, a 7,209-yard, par-70 course in Fort Worth, has surrendered winning scores ranging from 21-under par to 9-under. Because this is the first PGA Tour event since the coronavirus pandemic shutdown in March, the field has been expanded from 120 to 144 players. Rory McIlory, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler head a stacked field eager to attack Colonial’s Bentgrass greens.

Which pros who should be atop your 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge Fantasy golf rankings? Kevin Na has struggled this season, missing three cuts and ranking 177th in greens in regulation. But he won the Charles Schwab Challenge last year by four strokes, shooting 13-under, and finished fourth at Colonial the year before. Is he among the Fantasy golf sleepers you should target? And which Fantasy golf picks can lead you to a title? Before finalizing any lineups, check out the latest Fantasy golf rankings from data scientist Rick Gehman

With his expansive database of golf statistics, course data and betting odds, Gehman creates advanced models and back-tests them constantly. These models produced 10 outright winners in the past year, including 50-1 Chez Reavie at the Travelers and 40-1 Patrick Reed at the Northern Trust among eight PGA Tour winners, plus a $10,000 DraftKings win at the Masters

At the WGC-Mexico Championship last month, four of Gehman’s top six golfers finished tied for sixth or better. Then at the Honda Classic, Gehman was higher than many on Sungjae Im, ranking him eighth, and the 21-year-old South Korean earned his first PGA Tour victory. Gehman’s No. 2 golfer, Tommy Fleetwood, finished third.

Now Gehman, co-host of “The First Cut” podcast on CBS Sports, has revealed his top 30 players for the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge over at SportsLine so you can crush your Fantasy golf leagues.

2020 Charles Schwab Challenge Fantasy golf picks

For the Charles Schwab Challenge 2020, Gehman loves Sunjae Im, who registered his first PGA Tour win this year at the Honda Classic. The 22-year-old South Korean followed up that victory with a strong third-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, earning nearly $2 million in the two tournaments combined.

However, Gehman is shying away from Dustin Johnson, even though he’s among the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge favorites. In fact, Gehman says Johnson doesn’t even crack the top 10. The world’s fifth-ranked golfer hasn’t seriously contended at the four events he’s played in 2020 and hasn’t won a tourney in over a year. In nine of his past 11 events, Johnson has lost strokes on the green.
