UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira odds, predictions: MMA insider makes surprising picks

Coming off the success of UFC 249, mixed martial arts continues in the Octagon on Wednesday with UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira from VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville. Glover Teixeira takes on Anthony Smith in a dynamic light-heavyweight main event, the last of nine on the UFC Fight Night card. Teixeira enters the cage riding a three-fight winning streak, while Smith’s only blemish in his last five bouts was a loss to Jon Jones.

This is the second consecutive MMA event in Jacksonville following UFC 249, with UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris also on deck for Saturday, May 16. Smith is a -175 favorite (risk $175 to win $100), while Teixeira is a +140 underdog in the latest Smith vs. Teixeira odds at William Hill. In the co-main event, Ovince Saint Preux (-150) takes on Ben Rothwell (+130) in a heavyweight bout. Before locking in any UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira picks, be sure to see the latest UFC predictions from SportsLine MMA expert Kyle Marley.

Marley won the first-ever “ToutMaster” UFC betting contest sponsored by MMAOddsBreaker and also appears regularly on multiple MMA betting and DFS shows. Over the past year, $100 bettors who have followed Marley’s picks are up nearly $19,000.

At UFC 248 in March, Marley told SportsLine members to expect middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (-275) to retain his title against Yoel Romero (+235) by unanimous decision. He reasoned that Adesanya would use his speed and agility to outpoint Romero. Marley was proven correct, as the titleholder kept the fight at range with leg kicks while dodging Romero’s explosive power. Anyone who has consistently followed Marley is way up.

Now, with UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Smith fast approaching, Marley has carefully studied every matchup on the card, identified the best value in the UFC odds and released his MMA picks for every fight. He’s only sharing those selections right here

Smith vs. Teixeira expert preview

Smith, (33-14) 31, is known as a warrior in the Octagon who doesn’t appear to possess world-class skills but finds a way to win thanks to his resilience and will. He has been an underdog in several of his victories against top opponents.

He came out on the short end of a lopsided decision against Jones in their March 2019 title fight. But just three months later, he secured a submission over perennial contender Alexander Gustafsson as a +250 underdog. Smith has won four of his last five UFC bouts and received performance bonuses in four of his past six fights.

Teixeira, 40, is a submission specialist who has 10 finishes among his 12 UFC victories. He lost a title shot against Jones by decision in April 2014 but has seen a career resurgence over the past year.

The Brazilian went 3-0 in 2019, including two submission finishes. He is coming off a split-decision victory against Nikita Krylov in September. Marley is only giving out his Teixeira vs. Smith picks and MMA predictions here.

Top UFC Fight Night predictions for May 13

Marley is backing Andrei Arlovski (+130) to upset Philipe Lins (-150) via decision in a heavyweight bout. Arlovski will certainly outweigh Lins, as he checked in at 244 pounds in his last fight compared to Lins’ 205.

Arlovski will enter the Octagon on Wednesday sporting a 28-19 record, while Lins is much more inexperienced at 14-3. This will be Lins’ UFC debut, as he is riding a four-fight winning streak that included winning the PFL heavyweight title, but it’s his first action since December 2018. Arlovski has had three bouts in that time, but has gone 1-2.

“I didn’t see anything special in the film on Lins,” Marley told SportsLine. “He should be the quicker and more powerful fighter considering the stage of both of their careers, but nothing tells me he should be a -150 favorite over a veteran like Arlovski.”
